Reviewed: Silvretta's Easygo-Telemark Touring Plate

Text and Photos By Brad Peterson (TeleCH)

I recently did the Haute-Route from Verbier to Zermatt, and just before leaving had a new pair of Silvretta Easygo Telemark binding "adaptors" added to the underside of my Rottefellas Cobras. These adaptors mount between the ski and the telemark binding, and allow the binding to freely pivot, like an alpine touring binding, when in the "unlocked" position.

The adaptors were a little thicker than the shims I had before (I'm guessing about 15mm vs. 10mm), and probably added a little weight though I felt no discernible difference when skiing.

During the trip we skied varied terrain, worked on a number of "projects" (quick detours up juicy looking couloirs), and skied some technical stuff - the bindings performed admirably. In the "locked" telemark position they felt no different on my feet than the shims that were there before.

Beyond the fact that you could actually tour comfortably on them, was they had an added benefit: bomber ski crampons you could add on to the underside of the binding. These, unlike other ski crampons I¹ve seen for telemark, fit to the binding and not the ski so pivoting your foot pops them out of the snow (like a traditional touring binding) rather than having to lift your ski off the snow. I picked this pair up at Mountain Air in Verbier. From what I understand they were designed by a guy that works at Silvretta (and they do look a lot like one of their touring bindings) and will be manufactured and distributed by Silvretta next year (more info).

I¹m super psyched to have these on my skis. A couple other telemarkers on the trip eyed my bindings jealously the entire time. There isn't a single bad thing I could say about these adaptors, I would highly recommend them!
