Telemark Talk
Forum Guidelines
First we want
to thank all of you who have helped make the World Famous Telemark
Talk Forum such a fun and positive place for tele and backcountry
skiers to exchange information. There are just four hard and
fast rules that we strictly enforce, your cooperation is very
much appreciated.
One, our Forum reflects our
sport, it is a happy place full of good will and people helping
people. That is why it exists. It does not exist for folks to
express their negative feelings for persons of any race,
religion, country of origin, etc. We will not tolerate bigotry
in any form, including posts intended to incite expressions of
such bigotry from others. This is a "zero tolerance"
rule.
Two, the Forum is not here
for individuals or companies to promote their products, goods,
services, or themselves. If you want to advertise on Telemarktips
please contact us, our rates are reasonable and you can help
support the site while reaching a large, targeted audience. Please
do not come onto our Forum boards and advertise your company,
product, services or goods in any way whatsoever, even if you
feel you are providing some kind of "service to the community"
or "news". It is not fair to those who pay for the
privilege of reaching our audience
and whose support keeps Telemarktips live on the web every day.
Manufacturers,
designers, distributors, retailers, sponsored skiers and others
with a connection to a company are always welcome to post, even
encouraged to do so, but we ask these people to use their real
names, disclose their connection in any post relating to their
company's products or activities, and to focus on providing information
rather than promotion.
On a related
note, this should be obvious but we cannot allow anyone in the
industry to use our forums to denigrate a competitor's product
or service. The integrity of the Telemark Talk Forum is very important
to us. We reserve the right to expose these kinds of rude and
unethical acts to the fullest extent possible.
Three, do not under any circumstances
post the personal information (email address, phone number, etc)
of any individual other than yourself.
Violating either
the literal meaning or the spirit of the above rules will not
be tolerated and will result in the member's right to post being
terminated immediately and permanently. By posting on the Telemark
Talk Forum you explicitly agree to abide by the above rules and
acknowledge that you understand the consequences of not doing
so.
Four, concerning private-party
sales on TeleTurnAround: This board is intended for private-party
gear for sale, or gear wanted postings only. In these days of
Ebay trading and the like, the line between "private-party"
sales and commercial endeavors may be a little blurred. As a
result we would like to make sure that our definition of "private-party"
is as clear as it can possibly be: For our purposes on TeleTurnAround,
a private-party is an individual who is not engaged in an on-going
outdoor gear business endeavor, and/or whose posting is not related
to an on-going outdoor gear business endeavor of any kind. TeleTurnAround
is provided as a service to the Telemarktips community primarily
so that members can sell used personal gear. It is not for traders
who buy new stuff on Ebay, Craig's List, etc., intended for resale.
Nor is to be used for any other commercial purposes. We thank
you for respecting the spirit of this private-party rule, as
well as the literal definition.
Those
are the hard and fast rules...now for some additional guidelines:
We would like
to ask everybody to refrain from being personally disrespectful to each other. Too
many good Forums have been ruined by flame wars and we will do
everything possible to keep that stuff in check. We like to view
the Forum as a kind of 24 hours a day, 365 days a year party
thrown for the international telemark and backcountry skiing
community. A party where those skiers can come together, hang
out and talk about the sport, exchange information and create
community. As such, we would like to ask Forum posters to conduct
themselves as if they were face to face with both the fellow
members of the community, and the hosts. Forum members who insist
on posting hostile and rude comments directed at individuals,
or the community as a whole, will eventually be shown the door.
This is a
sport dominated in numbers by men, as such the Forum can easily take on
a little too much of a "boys club" tone. We do have
a lot of tele women visiting and posting, we want them to feel
welcome at our party. Rule of thumb: if you wouldn't say it to
a group of women you just met in the bar after skiing, you probably
shouldn't post it on the Forum either. In case this needs to
be spelled out, that would include female anatomy jokes, posting
nude photos, etc, etc.
Links to potentially
offensive websites are not to be posted on the Telemark Talk Forum,
they will be removed at the sole discretion of the moderator.
Links to sites related to subjects being discussed are always
welcome. Please do not include a link in your signature line,
the place to permanently link to a website is in your profile.
About your
right to privacy:
We respect your privacy completely on the Telemark Talk Forum.
We will not sell, lend or otherwise share your email address
with anyone.
About the
First Amendment, censorship, and your "right to free speech:" You do indeed have an
absolute right to free speech. If you find it impossible to abide
by the hard and fast rules above, to honor these additional guidelines,
or to accept the decisions of the moderator as to what stays
on the board or goes, please feel free to contact one of the
many good web hosting companies out there to set up an account,
create your own discussion board and exercise that right to your
heart's content.
One last thing,
try to keep the harsher profanity to a minimum. We have mostly disabled
the word filter feature in our board software, and we count on
you to not abuse this freedom of expression.
Someone has
to interpret the above guidelines and how they apply to the Telemark Talk
Forum, that someone is me, Mitch Weber, publisher of Telemarktips.com
and the moderator of the Telemark Talk Forum. There will always
be gray areas, for example when a regular contributor mentions
their own business interest, or in the case of off topic threads,
etc., in the end it's up to me to make the call. If any of you
have any questions about these guidelines, please feel free to
contact me at the email address below.
