Bob Yerman of Lightning
Boards
|
May, 2006-- We had been hearing about this
guy for awhile. Bob had been making modern shaped skis out of
solid straight grain heartwood ash in his own woodworking shop,
mostly just for fun, that is until last year when interest in
this craftsman's unique boards began to pick up. Yerman produced
7
different models
last year and sold out of each one.... it was fun to meet up
with him and his (and our) old friend, PSIA Nordic Demo Team
member Scott McGee...

Annelise Loevlie from Icelantic
AT Boards
|
May, 2006-- "Short and fat is where it's
at," that is what a lot of telemark and backcountry skiers
have been saying for a long time. So why not carry the thought
a little further? That's the design idea the crew at Icelantic
AT Boards is pursuing to what they feel just may be its logical
conclusion. They were showing several models at SIA last January,
including their 143cm-long "Scout" with a 140mm tip,
105mm waist and 130mm tail....

Tele-specific
Apparel Maker Dan Abrams of FlylowGear.com
February, 17, 2006--
By getting several
of the top tele comp and film athletes on board the Flylow train,
owner Dan Abrams managed to make quite a splash in Flylow's debut
last season. Suddenly, Dylan Crossman, Eben Mond, Erin Young
and many others were showing up wearing Flylow's stylish but
functional jackets, and their bullet-proof ski pants, designed
specifically to the needs of hard charging tele skiers. At OR
Dan showed us his latest stuff, including Flylow's new "Dropkick"
pants with dual side zips designed to make it easy for tele skiers
to put on or take off their knee pads, without dropping their
drawers. This and several other features built into the Dropkick
Pants came about as a result of a poll Flylow conducted on our
Telemark Talk Forum. "The poll on the forum last year helped
us figure out what the freeheel community wants," says Dan.
The Flylow crew and its owner believe in the future of telemark
skiing and are committed to meeting the unique needs of freeheelers
everywhere. At Telemarktips, we like that a lot.

Dave Goode
of Goode Skis
February, 14, 2006--
Goode says his
carbon skis have "half the weight and twice the physicals."
He says he can make a pair of backcountry skis that weigh half
as much as a conventional fiberglass ski but perform twice as
nice. Goode further claims that carbon would also allow him to
make a ski that weighs 1/4 as much as a conventional bc ski,
if buyers were willing to accept the same performance they get
now from conventional skis. "Every other sport, tennis,
golf, windsurfing, bicycles, all have carbon being introduced
to them. What's happened to our ski industry?" Dave asks.
"We have been asleep at the wheel," he says. Length:
