Euro skin (tail hook, rubber
tip)
The following instruction is for the left ski (to match
the video), reverse for right.
|
Plant your poles to your left, about two feet apart (parallel
to your ski), and bring the handles together to touch. Separate
the glued surfaces of one skin, and hold both ends in your left
hand (skin forms a U, with the glue surface on the
outside). Put your left hand on top of your two pole handles
for balance, while holding both skin ends. Your left hand never
leaves the pole handles until after the skin is attached. Poles
and right foot form a tripod for balance. Lift your left ski
up, move it forward, and bring the tail back on the right side
of your right leg. Rest your left outer ankle on top of your
right knee. With your right hand, wipe any snow off the bottom
of the ski. |
 |
|
With your right hand, take the tail hook end of the skin
from your left hand. Left hand still holds the rubber tip end
of the skin.
Hook the tail hook on the tail of the left ski (left boot
still resting on right knee). |
 |
|
Slide your hand forward pressing a few of feet of the skin
to the ski surface from the hook forward. |
 |
|
Now take the tip end of the skin in your right hand, making
sure that the metal loop is not pressed down onto the rubber
tip. Move the left ski back to the left of your right foot, holding
the ski up off the snow as high as possible.
With your right hand still holding the tip end of the skin,
put your right fingers under the left ski. |
 |
|
Slide your hand forward to the tip of the ski, stretching
the skin out to the tip. |
 |
|
Hook the metal loop on the tip of the ski, and with
your right hand press the entire skin onto the surface of the
ski. One ski down, one to go! See the video for a full demonstration. |

ClipFix skin (metal loop tip, metal
cam clip at tail)
The following instruction is for the right ski
(to match the video), reverse for left.
|
Plant your poles to your right, about two feet apart (parallel
to your ski), and bring the handles together to touch. Separate
the glued surfaces of one skin, and hold both ends in your right
hand (skin forms a U, with the glue surface on the
outside). Put your right hand on top of your two pole handles
for balance, while holding both skin ends. Your right hand never
leaves the pole handles until after the skin is attached. Poles
and left foot form a tripod for balance. Lift your right ski
up, move it forward, and bring the tail back on the left side
of your right leg. Rest your right outer ankle on top of your
left knee. With your left hand, wipe any snow off the bottom
of the ski. |

|
|
Move the right ski back to the right of your left foot,
holding the ski up off the snow as high as possible. With your
left hand, take the tip end of the skin from your right hand.
Right hand still holds the tail end of the skin.
Holding the tip end of the skin, put your left fingers
under the right ski. |

|
|
Slide your hand forward to the tip of the ski. Hook the metal
loop on the tip of the ski. |

|
|
Slide your hand backwards, pressing a few feet of the skin
onto the ski surface. |
 |
|
Once again move your right ski forward, bring the tail back
on the left side of your left leg and rest your right outer ankle
on top of your left knee. |
 |
|
Now take the tail end of the skin in your left hand, reach
back to the tail end of the ski, and clip the metal cam lever
over the ski end. With your left hand press the entire skin onto
the surface of the ski. Move the ski back into position. One
ski down, one to go! See video for demonstration.
[Note: I just got the Clipfix skins last season, haven't
had much practice with them, and filmed this clip on the first
outing this season, all of which are my excuses for this not
being quite as smooth as the demo of the Euro skin!]. |
