Scarpa Will Take Care Of NTN Early
Adopters With Plan To Replace '07 T-X Lower Shells With Improved
Triple-Injection Version
An official announcement
could come as early as tomorrow
March 5, 2008-- Telemarktips has learned that Scarpa is
about to make public a plan in support of NTN early adopters
who have purchased '07 Terminator-X boots, and struggled with
the serious bellows flex issue noted in our
review last January. Unhappy T-X owners will be instructed
to keep skiing their boots through the end of the current season,
then return their boots to Scarpa for replacement of the entire
lower shell.
The new triple-injected lower shell
will have the same vastly improved bellows flex as next year's
Scarpa T-X and T-X Pro NTN boots. We are currently testing next
year's T-X boots, and we will have a full and detailed report
very shortly, but for now we can share that the new triple-injected
shell takes the NTN concept to the next level, providing a smooth
and easy bellows flex, without sacrificing torsional rigidity.
The bellows flex in the new shells is now optimized to take much
better advantage of the NTN's unique characteristics, including
the sytem's ability to be fine tuned for feel and activity level,
according to user preference.
T-X owners who elect to take Scarpa
up on its offer will be expected to contact Scarpa in May, 2008
at the email address below, then ship their boots to Scarpa-USA's
workshop in Colorado at their own expense. There the shells will
be replaced and new scuff guards will be installed at no charge.
Scarpa will then send the boots back and pay the cost of return
shipping. The process is expected to take between two and six
weeks, with the work taking place from June through September,
2008. For the remainder of the season, owners needing replacement
scuff guards should contact Scarpa, also at the email address
below.
In its announcement, Scarpa mentions
that T-X owners will "likely" need to replace their
NTN spring cartridges in order to "get your desired flex,"
but we think it's important to note that so far in our
testing, we have been very happy
using the standard cartridges with the new boots. We feel that NTN owners using springs other than the
stiffest black cartridges will probably be quite satisfied with
the performance of the new shells in their current setup, but
Scarpa was right to note the possibility.
Of note in the pending announcement
from Scarpa is the acknowledgement of the many and ongoing contributions
to the total NTN body of knowledge made by the early adopters
on this Web site and its Telemark Talk Forum, also concluding
with the following:
We appreciate all of the feedback
that we have received from the dedicated skiers who have seen
and tasted the power of NTN.
Refurbishing your boots to include
much of the learning curve experienced this season
is our thanks. Your humble SCARPA crew
