September, 2004-- One of the more innovative
products showing at the Summer Outdoor Retailer show this year
was Oakley's new "Thump," a pair of Oakley sunglasses
with a built-in MP-3 player. Oakley calls the Thump the world's
first digital music eyewear. It will reportedly be available
in seven color combinations and two versions, a 128mb model
and a 256mb model with polarized lenses. Powered by a rechargeable
lithium-ion polymer battery which can be charged via a computer
USB connection or with optional external charger, the Thump will
support both Windows and Mac systems. Player functions such as
fast forward, play, rewind, etc., are located on the right ear
stem, the volume controls are found on the left. Weight is less
than 1.8 oz . A car charger and an international charger are
among the accessories that will be available. The MSRP for the
128mb Thump is $395 and the 256mb model will go for $495.
