Cup Ski Mountaineering Event in North America, Ethan Passant
and Petra Pirc Take Firsts In Race Division, Matt Turley &
Leslie Ross Top Recreational Division
March 20, 2004 Salt Lake City, UT.
Black Diamond Equipment Ltd., a global leader in climbing and
backcountry gear, hosted the first International Ski Mountaineering
Council World Cup Event in North America, Saturday morning, in
a point-to-point style race from Alta to Brighton Ski areas.
Under blue bird skies and with spring temperatures rising, over
140 competitors ascended and descended multiple peaks with European
racers setting new standards for speed and efficiency.
Sponsored by Patagonia, SCARPA, Ski Utah
and the Utah Travel Council, the Black Diamond Wasatch PowderKeg
served as the third and final stop on the World Cup Tour this
year for singles (as opposed to teams) racing. For more information
