March 26th, 2004--Dylan
Crossman turned in another crowd pleasing performance today among
a strong field of competitors on day-one of the Extreme Freeskiing
Telemark Championships here at Crested Butte Mountain in Colorado.
Crossman, out to defend his champion's title won during last
year's series, in no small part due to a 60 foot front flip he
launched here at CB, wowed spectators and judges alike with a
first run that combined smooth air and aggressive skiing on the
Hawk's Nest course, but it was the former Mad River Glen local's
second run that had those on the scene cheering.
|
Airing cleanly off the top and spinning
360s while speeding down the firm spring snow course, Crossman
reminded everyone why he will be the one to beat in tomorrows
day-two final. It was an inspiring and awesome performance by
the young man who now calls Alta home.
Approximately 55 men, 11 women and 10 junior
athletes competed in the morning qualifying round, a solid turnout
for this championship event. A contest that was rescued from
a late-date cancellation at Snowbird only through the strong
efforts of Total Telemark's Nat Ross, Crested Butte event organizer
Jeff Moffet and most of all CB's longtime ski area PR rock
star and Marketing Director, Gina Kroft. |

After the first round cuts were made 35
men were left to compete in the finals Saturday. At tonight's
after party the athletes were able to check out not only their
final scores but the judge's individual scores and comments as
well. A course briefing was held and then the party began, at
least for those athletes who didn't survive the cut, those that
did make the final tended to sneak away early to get some rest
before tomorrow's big day.
With fresh snow in the overnight forecast
and a challenging course on Crested Butte Mountain's "Headwall"
in store for the Tele Extreme Skiing comp final, things could
not be going better here at CB. We will have a full report with
more video as part of our continuing coverage, so stay tuned! |

Here's a short video clip of Dylan Crossman's
second run. Nat and Heather were a little confused as to which
competitor was on course at the time but by Dylan's second 360
Nat knew who it just had to be...sorry for the low quality but
we are working off of a dial up connection at the moment here.. |
