Rottefella Officially Announces Its Revolutionary New NTN System

(press release, posted 1/12/06)

Rottefella has developed a completely new and revolutionary system for Telemark bindings and –boots. The new system is named NTN (New Telemark Norm) and will be the basis for a series of new telemark bindings from Rottefella and new telemark boots from Crispi, Garmont and Scarpa. The first NTN bindings, in combination with new NTN boots, are ready and will be presented for the international market at the ISPO fair in Munich, Germany, at the end of this month.

The skiing public has, for a long time, requested a complete overhaul of tradition- bound telemark bindings. Rottefella has, together with the boot manufacturers Scarpa, Crispi and Garmont, worked for several years to fulfil this desire. The NTN system, complete with new bindings and boots are now ready and will be displayed at the ISPO 2006 fair.

The NTN-system breaks with the traditional 75 mm system and solutions, which all present telemark bindings are based upon. It also provides many new features and advantages:
  •  Symmetrical boot/binding (no left and right binding).
  • Far better skiing performance due to a new attachment point under the boot. This gives better stability and more precise transfer of power.
  •  The NTN boot has no duckbill sole.
  • The NTN boot has improved walking/hiking performance.
  • The NTN boot is perfectly adapted for crampons.
  • The NTN boot will fit into traditional Alpine Touring bindings.

The new NTN telemark binding from Rottefella will offer far better skiing qualities and more features than existing 75mm telemark bindings, including:

  • Better stability and skiing performance
  • Touring mode (like Alpine Touring bindings)
  • A ski brake
  • Easy entry and exit
  • Possibility for an advanced and dependable release function
  • A radical new design, modernizing the look and function of telemark bindings.
Product launch plan:

Rottefella is planning a product launch in two steps, the first being a limited launch in Norway fall 2006. NTN products will be available for consumers at a limited number of Norwegian retail outlets winter 2006/2007. Step two will see an international launch in January 2007, which means that the NTN binding and boots will be available for consumers world wide winter 2007/2008.

Editor's note: This is it folks, the first production model of Rottefella's NTN has been announced after many years of development and patient waiting by the telemark community. More on Rottefella's NTN and their design philosophy can be found in an interview with the company's Marketing Manager, Torbjorn Ragg, published here on Telemarktips last April: TeleNews Page 49.
