R.I.P., Telemon

.

We lost a friend to many in the Telemarktips community when Bob Wiebe passed away last week, after a fall in whiteout conditions on Mt. Hood. Bob was an active and longtime participant on our TelemarkTalk Forum, where he shared info and cool photos from his many backcountry trips in the Pacific Northwest. Bob also sent us many pictures in recent years, some of which we used as cover shots, and all of which we enjoyed viewing here at the Telemarktips.com World Headquarters. As a tribute to Bob, we thought it would be nice to go through the files and post a few of our favorites from the many emails received from "telemon" (as he was known on the Forum).

An enthusiastic telemark skier and climber, Bob Wiebe will surely be missed by many, including all of his friends here at Telemarktips.

I only have a couple of heroes in this sport, and they have accomplished many great feats, but the folks who inspire me most, and remind me what it's all about, are the true enthusiasts, those who are out there living and giving, and sharing the stoke. Bob was one of those folks.

Rest in peace our friend, we were lucky to know you.

Bob often sent us photos of September turns in the PNW. Here's son Gabe Wiebe above their lakelet campsite near the Coleman Pinnacle, Mt. Baker, September, 8th, 2007. Photo: Bob Wiebe

Here's one Bob took and sent to us of Forum-ite "Hamish" on Cypress Mountain at Whistler in March of 2008. The 2010 Olympic halfpipe and boardercross tracks are visible in the background. Photo: Bob Wiebe
